Stupa in Salzburg
What is a stupa?
A stupa is a symbol for the fully developed mind. According to Buddhist tradition, a stupa reminds us of the possibility to experience buddhahood – a state of mind, that is inherent in every sentient being like „sesame oil in a sesame seed“.
The Stupa in Salzburg
Every stupa has its own history and its own miracles. The miracle of the stupa in Salzburg is without a doubt the fact that it was possible to build a stupa on the highest and most beautiful place of the Mönchsberg, a hill in the heart of the historic town center, where hundreds of people take a stroll every day. Situated approximately sixty meters above the town it majestically overlooks the historic town center and the buddha in the stupa looks onto the fortress of Hohensalzburg, the town’s landmark, which is visited by countless tourists every year.
The stupa in Salzburg is an enlightenment stupa that commemorates the full realization of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni. The stupa in Salzburg is 4,18 meters in height and made from Polish granite.
