Vienna

The Vienna center of the Karma Kagyu lineage was formed in 1972, after the first lecture of Lama Ole Nydahl in our city. Back then Lama Ole, pupil of His Holiness the 16th Karmapa Rangjung Dorje Rigpa, started giving lectures in Europe in order to introduce Buddhism and the Diamond Way meditations.

From 1982 to 1997, our center was located together with other Buddhist schools in Fleischmarkt. Until spring 2008, we kept a large house in Floridsdorf which served as our live-in center. In parallel, we had from 2002 to 2009 a center in Siebensterngasse, closer to the city center of Vienna.

Since May 2009 we have our big live-in center located in the city center of Vienna (Schmelzgasse 3, 1020 Vienna). Lama Ole Nydahl inaugurated this center in December 2011. Additionally, His Holiness the 17th Karmapa Thaye Dorje, current spiritual head of the Karma Kagyu lineage, and Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche have been guests of our center.
