The Great Seal, or Mahamudra, is the crown jewel of Buddha’s teachings. It is a main teaching in the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism where duality falls away, where space becomes joy, where subject, object, and action are inseparable. The Great Seal encompasses the foundation, way/method, and goal and leads to a direct experience of mind. Having confidence in one’s own Buddha-nature, one practices dwelling in the inseparability of experiencer, object experienced, and the experience. As a result one will fully awaken mind and will achieve enlightenment.
This course will examine the Aspiration Song of Mahamudra, which was composed in the 14th century by the Third Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje. In this text the Third Karmapa explains the nature of mind, making it possible for us to share in his experience of the Great Seal. He shows us that the true nature of mind is clear and limitless space. This opens up our full potential for joy, compassion, and wisdom.
Lama Ole Nydahl and his wife Hannah received the transmission of the Great Seal from the head of the Karma Kagyu lineage, the 16th Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje (1924-1981). Lama Ole will share his experience of The Great Seal through this profound teaching during the four-day course.
